Alex Hinderscheid is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a background in critical care and specialized experience in eating disorders. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Central Florida and completed his Master of Science in Nursing at Jacksonville University, with a focus on mental health care.
Alex began his career in the Intensive Care Unit at Tampa General Hospital, where he cared for medically fragile and complex post-surgical patients. He went on to serve as a charge nurse and preceptor, and later achieved national certification in critical care nursing (CCRN). Drawn to the connection between physical and mental health, he transitioned into psychiatry, gaining further experience as a nurse in outpatient behavioral health.
Alex also completed a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) mentorship with an intensively trained DBT therapist and Doctor of Nursing Practice. During this time, he provided individual therapy, co-led skills groups, and participated in weekly consultation teams. His approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and rooted in respect for the recovery process.
At Waves of Hope, Alex provides medication management and treatment planning for the partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. He is passionate about creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where patients feel seen and empowered.
Outside of work, Alex enjoys exploring new restaurants, playing piano, attending concerts, and traveling whenever he can.
